Europe’s longest running club night Back To Basics will be celebrating its 24th birthday at the end of this month with a party of epic proportions, with the venue for the festivities having just been announced.
Taking place on the 21st of November at The Faversham, Basics will be partying in its traditional fashion, joined by a jaw dropping line up of both cutting edge DJs and a flurry of special guests from a selection of the worlds naughtiest night clubs, set to give the party an atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era of clubbing hedonism.
For one night only, The Faversham will be dressed up like you have never seen it before in the style of one the world’s sexiest institutions, The Playboy Mansion. Proper Back To Basics treatment, including roof to floor décor and some very, very risqué instalments will create an otherworldly place to properly let your hair down and dance like no one is watching. This year’s annual theme will bring together attire from everywhere that is, or has been naughty over the past three decades. Think New York’s Club Kids, Berlin’s Berghain, London’s Torture Garden and The Playboy Mansion itself. Glitz, glamour, kink and limitless imagination are your grounds for fancy dress inspiration.
The daring theme, which will be encouraging boys to dress up and girls to dress down, extends to the artwork in a fashion that mirrors some of the more controversial pieces from the iconic collection of flyers designed by Basics co-founder Dave Beer. We’re talking a topless Queen Liz on the front of a Playboy Mag.
Throughout the festivities there will be a splashing of cabaret, kinky dancers and trannies as some of the most renowned party people from the worlds most discerning dance floors come together. Ibiza icons Mike & Claire from Manumission will host a series of performances that include The Beerlesque Pony Club, X Rated Cabaret and Mad Alan, a shocking yet awe inspiring performer, one that’s not for the squeamish. The club will also be graced by homo disco royalty as NYC Donwlow from Glastonbury’s Block 9 will bring their unique flair with drag queens and dancing a plenty, not to mention their trusty resident DJ, Gideon Berger.
It wouldn’t be Basics without a lengthy line up of house and techno stalwarts, with Fabric resident Craig Richards heading up the pack that also features Dogmatik label boss Alex Arnout and Leeds bred disco dons PBR Streetgang. A selection of Basics elite residents and new school talent will be completing the music programme, with each in their own right bringing a quality that cannot be seen anywhere else in the UK, if not the world. These cementing foundations include Ralph Lawson, Dungeon Meat, Burnski, James Holroyd, James Barnsley, Gas House Kids, Ethan Marin and TMS.
It’s arguably the biggest birthday yet with an opportunity to party in a way that has been shunned aside by the laws of the land. Expect the unexpected; it’s going to get exciting.
