Few, if any, can challenge Butter Side Up on consistency of bookings in Leeds, and the Wire favourites have outdone themselves again with their latest recruits. Set to bring two of the finest diggers around to town for a night of unidentifiable sonic treats on Friday 10th February, the next BSU night will get their year off to a flyer thanks to Binh and Francesco Del Garda.
Making a Leeds debut, Perlon and Club Der Visionaere’s Binh will exemplify why he is so adored in Berlin, where he is renowned as one of the deepest diggers in a city full of dance music collectors. Delving into the most obscure corners of dance music, his love for tripped out electronics has been a key factor in his success at world-famous venues like Panorama Bar, and with delectable releases on creme de la creme labels like Cabaret and his own Time Passages, there’s no denying his other-worldly understanding of sound.
Move on to Del Garda and somehow the quality goes up another notch again. A specialist in finding tracks that were never known and making them into the most coveted secret weapons, Francesco is a master of the art in its every form; a world-class technician, a boundless explorer and a natural curator, he draws from an armoury of fascinatingly off-kilter house, minimal garage and baffling electro to carve out sets that will lead you out into the woods and get you good and lost. A visionary character with immaculate mixing to back up the controlled madness of his music, Del Garda is as befitting of the Butter Side Up mantra as any other DJ you’ll find, and you can expect the breaks to extend beyond mere beats as he takes everything you thought you knew about dance music and smashes it to pieces in front of you.
Booking of the year already? Up there.
