Blacklight heralded one hell of a comeback in February. The Leeds based night is following the party up this May Bank Holiday Weekend at The Mint Club, Leeds with another heavyweight line up featuring one of Britain’s hottest techno imprints.
Having been throwing parties in the city under the Blackight banner for a number of years, the organisers had already invited a long line of exceptional guests including Dave Clarke, Chris Liebing, Robert Hood and Adam Beyer to play under the rainbow ceiling at Leeds clubbing nucleus, Mint. After a change around in management earlier this year, a small, enthusiastic group of techno heads took the reins and had a lot to live up to, but did so with a storming return in February, for which they invited back Ben Sims and Dax J.
On May 27th, Black Light will return to Mint Club to showcase one of the UKs leading labels when it comes to techno, Perc Trax. With a roster that shows off a long line of some of the most creative producers in the genre, Perc's label has coined releases that are some of the toughest and most raucous you will hear. Expect acid heavy basslines and kick drums overdriven beyond belief. The likes of Drax, Truss, Scalameriya, VSK and Matt Whitehead have all fronted released on Perc’s both vinyl and digital label, with showcases popping up regularly all over Europe.
The showcase wouldn’t be so without the main man making an appearance. Hailing from London, Ali Wells doubles up as both a live act and a DJ, with both versions of the show being seen in seminal night clubs like Berghain, Fabric, MOS, Tresor and Cocoliche. Performing a DJ set at Mint Club, Perc will play alongside fellow label mate AnD, who will be taking up duties with a live performance. This duo from Manchester rose to prominence in 2011, with a number of releases donning a stripped back style and performances on vinyl that made them one of the most exciting new artists to see. AnD now don their own label with Tom Dicicco, Inner Surface Music, and have developed their live show into one that really stands out from other performers like them.
Jay Knight, the also Manchester based DJ is the promoter behind the cities Locked parties. Known for his 3 deck mixing, he will be a special addition to this line up, not least because of that fact he will be pairing up with Blacklight resident Ed Makie. Trusted residents Tiptoe and Omid will also be resuming their Blacklight duties on the night.
