It’s the time of year when festive jumpers, lights and German sausages flood the streets of Leeds, also a time to welcome extra special electronic musical talent to the clubs and bars that line the colourfully lit streets. Bring together this time of year and Butter Side Up’s time of month and you have yourselves the BSU Christmas Party, which is playing host to one of the brands closest collaborators, Hunee.
Hailing from a city he used to infect with soul and rap music, before moving to the underground musical hub of Berlin, Hunee, also known as Hun Choi, has been a favourite of the Butter Side Up team since he debuted in 2012 with a set that tore through, rather than bent the boundaries of genre. Liked not least for his releases on labels such as Rush Hour, Permanent Vacation and Ostgut Ton, but mostly for his energy and vigour when in control of a pair of turntables, this a performance everyone involved is awaiting fanatically.
This year Hunee has been on a mission with dates everywhere from Panorama Bar to London’s Dance Tunnel, mixing together going solo and performing as half of his legendary back to back duo with fellow Rush Hour comrade Antal. With support from the Butter Side Up Residents in Hamish Cole, Hugh Bailey, Jonny Sleight and Ciaran Hansen, this is most definitely Christmas come early for many of us, and with tickets available at a bargain £8 it will be a treat no one will be able to say no to.
