After last month’s event with Craig Richards, Butter Side Up is back again at Wire in Leeds to continue their chain of noticeably enjoyable events with their undoubtable strong bookings. This month it is the turn of Rick Wade, who is dropping in to play an extended 3 hour set in Wire’s underground confines.
Hailing from Detroit, Rick Wade is no newcomer to the scene, in fact he is entirely the opposite. For those who are not familiar with his work he is not one to disappoint. Wade has in the past appeared on well over 30 of house’s finest labels such as Rush Hour and Laid with popular tracks including Player’s Theme (Robsoul) and The League (Danzon).
As well as releasing material on other labels he also runs his own imprint, Harmonie Park. Dominantly a label releasing on vinyl only, it has been a platform for Wade to publicise his own music as well as releasing tracks and EP’s from other artists and friends from fellow Motor City artists including past Butter Side Up guests; Mike Huckaby and Theo Parrish. The label’s sounds compliment that of Rick bringing aspects of funk, soul, disco and jazz into groovy house and techno rhythms. As the tracks on Harmonie Park are becoming highlights in the sets of DJ’s like Phil Weeks and Kris Wadsworth the tree which acts as the labels symbol is becoming a welcoming sight all around the world.
As mentioned earlier, Rick Wade will be playing an extended 3 hour set alongside Bruno Schmidt, a resident of the legendary Leeds based night Louche which has now moved on and broadened it’s horizons by attaining residencies in London and at Chalet in Berlin. Also on the line up will be Butter Side Up’s own residents Hamish Cole, Hugh Bailey, Jonny Sleight and Ciaran Hansen.
