Butter Side Up will be back again at Wire on Friday December 11th after last months soirée with Perlon mainstay Margaret Dygas. This time they will be bringing Detroit’s Marcellus Pittman to take control of the ones and twos in what will no doubt be an early Christmas present for everyone in attendance.
Hailing from the birthplace of techno and a litter of talented selectors, Marcellus Pittman was first inspired by jazz deejays such as The Wizzard and The Electrifying Mojo. After beginning to play at weddings and college parties, Marcellus Malik Pittman released his first productions as part of a local collective called Home Grown.
It wasn’t until the late 90s that Marcellus made a full transition to house music, with his Essential Selections Vol.1 being released on Theo Parrish’s label Sound Signature. After forming relationships with Detroit’s ‘three chairs’ Moodymann, Theo and Rick Wilhite, Pittman has gone onto become an integral part of the Detroit music scene with his sound spreading all over the world.
With releases on Unirhtyhm, FXHE and Downbeat, Marcellus has produced countless original tracks as well as remixes for Motor City Drum Ensemble and The Rhythm Odyssey amongst many others. His eclectic DJ sets will stretch between disco and techno encompassing the Motor City’s finest sounds. This will be one hell of an early Christmas prezzie.
