Anyone with the tiniest bit of reggae knowledge knows that the genre grew from Jamaican roots, and the Channel One BBQ will offer a proper homage to the motherland as the legendary sound system gets set up in the the car park of Bristol’s Lakota. Named after the paradigmatic Jamaican label of the same name, Channel One has become famous in its own right as one of the best sound systems in the dub scene, pumping out reggae new and old at locations across the world for over three decades.
Bringing with them record bags full of dub plates, the Channel One selectors will deploy massive tracks collected through many many years of digging, allowing their system to growl and rumble with the heavyweight bass sounds that the stacks are so renowned for. Matching the powerful tunes with another big-hitting Jamaican export, they’ve also recruited a jerk BBQ specialist to supply the dancefloor fuel, with cocktails also on offer to bring a bit of the beachfront feel to the West Country. Indisputably a most satisfying combination, this tried and tested formula needs no modification.
The BBQ gets underway at 2pm on Sunday 31st of July, and like all Channel One Sound System sessions, it’s guaranteed to be busy.
