London festival Citadel will make its return to Victoria Park on the 17th of July following a highly successful first outing last year. Brought to us by the brains behind MAMA, Time Out, Communion, Soundcrash and Superfly, the festival aims to pick up where it left as one of the new and most exiting festivals to come out of the inner city London area. Citadel are more than on their way to reaffirming this reputation with the festival set to welcome Icelandic post rock trio Sigur Rós along with one of Canada’s leading creative minds, Caribou.
Icelandic 3 piece Sigur Rós have become a world renowned for their dreamy sound which has been a constant feature over the course of their 7 full length records. The band’s 2005 single Hoppípolla featured on the BBC’s Planet Earth nature documentary series, propelling the band to superstar status. Fellow headliner, producer and multi instrumentalist Caribou has swapped and changed in a chameleon like manner over the course of his 4 albums. Having initially started out under the moniker Manitoba which featured a rich midi infused production style, Caribou released his debut LP in 2005 featuring heavy instrumentation which was evident on the album’s lead track Yeti. 2007’s follow up Andorra possesed a similar sound before 2010’s Swim bore the type of electronic stylings that Caribou is now associated with thanks to the exploits of his alias Daphi.
Also set to appear over the course of the day is US Folk singer Nathaniel Rateliff backed by his band The Night Sweats. The Horrors’ front man Faris Badwin will be treating Citadel to a showcase of his project with classically trained vocalist Rachel Zeffira. Leeds collective Submotion Orchestra will be overseeing proceedings as headliners of the Soundcrash stage and will no doubt provide a signature genre fusing performance.
