System is back for their winter series of events after hosting their movingly energetic tent at Mint Festival in September, which featured the likes of Loco Dice, Martin Buttrich and Robert Dietz on the ones and twos. For their next event of the season they have pulled out an absolutely dazzling line up out of the bag that is exciting everyone in the city and from further afar.
Headlining the bill on the 1st of November is none other than the Chilean wizard Ricardo Villalobos and Fabric’s main man Craig Richards, who will of course be joined by System residents Annie Errez and Bobby O’Donnell. Villalobos needs no introduction to fans of quality house and techno, as he has long held a reputation as being one of the most exciting, crazy and innovative DJs and producers of the last decade and more. As a selector he is one who you will rarely see play the same record twice, no matter how many times you may see him, with picks spanning from intense Balearic builders through weird and wonderful minimal to techno cuts you will heartbreakingly never hear again. As a producer Ricardo has fabricated a series of minimal house and techno gems, many of which have become underground classics and record bag essentials for other DJs. Tracks on Cocoon, Perlon, his own Sei Es Drum imprint and ‘that’ 28 minute long remix of Mari Kvien Brunvoll that has been tearing up dance floors all year, together have cemented him as a DJ’s DJ, one who will not disappoint, especially not in the intimate surroundings of Mint Club under the rainbow ceiling.
Craig Richards again will be a name akin to purveyors of the finest electronic music, as he famously holds a long standing residency at Fabric, as well as standing as their musical director. Craig is perhaps most well known for his capturing warm up sets that peak up ears and build a crowd with chuggy house and techno beats, again never becoming samey. He is also the head honcho of the illustrious label The Nothing Special, which has released a series of impressive releases from the likes of Trevino, Neville Watson and Craig Richards himself. One prospect we may have to look forward to is the combination of both of System’s November guests, as in the past the two have performed marathon back to back sets, most recently at Fabric when they took to the turntables together at 10am on Sunday morning.
