Nottingham’s flagship bass music night Detonate will be journeying to Leeds for two dates over the coming months at the now famed warehouse venue Canal Mills. The first appearance will see Detonate host David Rodigan’s Ram Jam imprint on Friday the 30th of January, before the second calls upon drum & bass label Hospitality to lead the charge on February 20th.
Detonate Leeds Presents: Ram Jam
David Rodigan (pictured above) is the spearhead of the iconic music imprint Ram Jam, upon which he has strived to release a varied and creative spectrum of bass music with reggae and dancehall compromising many of its releases. First spreading his music through radio shows on stations such as BBC Radio 2, Capital FM, Kiss and BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rodigan has built a hefty reputation through his innate knowledge of underground roots music. Now touring the world with Ram Jam, he regularly welcomes large bills of DJs and live acts who have caught his attention over the years.
This Leeds date at Canal Mills will see David Rodigan appearing with jungle stalwart Shy FX, whose iconic single ‘Original Nuttah’ has been cemented into the genres history with the track still being heard in clubs throughout the country today. Also joining these two will be Playaz favourite Hazard and Preditah. DJ Hazard has been responsible for a smorgasbord of jump up energy in singles like hard hitting favourite ‘Mr Happy’ and newer tracks including ‘Bricks Don’t Roll’. Preditah brings a slightly different vibe to finish of nicely as he has churned out a great mix of bouncy house, dub and breaks that will likely result in an exciting performance from the Brit.
Detonate Presents: Hospitality Leeds Warehouse Special
The month after Ram Jam has ricocheted of Canal Mill’s walls, Detonate will explode onto the Leeds scene once again, this time bringing London Elektricity’s stalwart D&B label Hospitality. These guys are no stranger to Leeds having thrown several parties at The O2 Academy in previous years, however throw in Canal Mills, a Funktion One sound system and a club atmosphere you have an entirely different party.
The line up for Detonate’s Hospitality takeover has yet to be announced, however we are likely to see an appearance from the label head, whilst judging from past line ups that have welcomed DJs of the ilk of Logistics, S.P.Y, Sub Focus, High Contrast, Netsky, Wilkinson and Nu Tone amongst a ton of others, it’s definitely going to be a big one.
