Dimensions SoundSystem have proven one of the most successful brands to come out of the Leeds clubbing scene in recent decades. The soundsytem have had a hand in putting on two of Croatia’s most esteemed festivals in Dimensions and Outlook and also earning plaudits as selectors by way of busy and active schedules. Surely possessing a mouth-watering list of phone contacts, Dimensions are able to call on the services of some of the top names in the game, and will do so once again for their March 18th show at HiFi with Dan Shake and Eliphino.
Utilising their Leeds connections, Dimensions have booked one of the brightest young stars of British house music in Dan Shake, the former Leeds student who holds the enviable title of being the first non-Detroit artist to have a release o Moodymann’s Mahogani Music. Having made his name whilst operating as a DJ on the Flux rota, Shake is now working from his London base to run his eponymous label, which was the platform for his two sell-out EPs, Shake Edits 1 & 2. Blessed with a feel for funk, disco, and house, Shake’s productions piece together deep rhythmic layers and irresistible grooves, demonstrating the influence of Detroit legends and afrobeat pioneers. These wide-ranging inspirations are reflected in his selections, and he should be a dead cert to go down well with the ever open-minded HiFi regulars.
Eliphino also joins the returning troop, back to the city where he made his break with the seminal Leeds house tune of 2010, “More Than Me”. Back in the days on Somethink Sounds, Eliphino did the rounds regularly at venues like Wire and The Garage, and has returned regularly since moving to London, deploying a signature fusion of garage, house and techno in his sets. Still sounding fresh, Eliphino’s sound also offers a nostalgic look back at a style that was commonplace in Leeds clubs across the board a few years ago, but has become an increasingly rare delicacy of late.
