From a small party in the intimate surroundings of Lemon Lounge to being one of the most popular monthly club nights in Liverpool, Chibuku has gained an iconic status through their many years of memorable events that have welcomed a long line of talented DJs and live acts. Now, one month after reopening for the 2014/15 year on Saturday 4th October, Chibuku have invited yet more hot to trot, in demand performers to take to their most recent home Arts Club (formerly East Village Arts Club). On the line up are a number of new school electronic artists who have proved themselves worthy of entertaining crowds at the most revered parties in the county.
First up is the international star Duke Dumont. If you’ve listened to dance music in the past year whether it be in a club, on the radio or whilst having your hair cut, you’re likely to have heard this mans tunes. Through Grammy nominated, chart topping hits like Need U (100%) to peak time Turbo Recordings tackle, his tracks have been heard in many a place. This year saw Duke Dumont take his Blasé Boys Club label to the white isle where he commenced a weekly residency at one of the best clubs on the island, Sankeys Ibiza.
Next up is Radio 1’s T. Williams who has been a favourite on both the radio and the dancefloor with shows bringing fresh new music and his own releases on labels like Local Action, Enchufada and PMR. Fusing many UK based styles and influences together, T. Williams has become part of the BBC’s In New DJs We Trust project consequently bagging sets at Glastonbury, Zoo Project and many states around the USA where he is currently completing his fall tour of America.
Oneman is next in Chibuku’s October line up, the Rinse FM resident who is renowned for cutting in a wide array of music into his exciting sets, from hip-hop to house and dubstep to garage he isn’t afraid to break away from norms and meld a great performance, talents that can be heard on both the Rinse and Fabriclive mix series.
Psychemagik are a relatively fresh pair of individuals who have been turning the heads of label owners and promoters through their cosmic style. This summer especially their tracks on labels such as Crosstown Rebels and their own Psychemagik imprint have been heard under the sun at many festivals both in the UK and outside.
Penultimately we have Kiwi, an artist who has been fronted by this October’s headliner and through both their work we have been given releases such as ‘The Mara’, a club track with 2 club ready mixes from both the originator and remixer Duke Dumont. Finally its Bontan, a name who shot to being a household name last year when he released his edit of Josh Butler’s ‘I Got A Feeling’, a track that stormed both commercial and clubbing playlists. As always the Chibuku residents will be on hand to warm things up from the off.
