New Year’s Eve is as good an excuse for a party as the yearly calendar can offer, so it should be taken as a given that there will be some big names on show at London nightspot EGG. With only the first wave of artists unveiled so far, the assumption has already been justified, with Pan-Pot and Matador the first names to make the list for the Saturday 31st December knees up.
German techno duo Pan-Pot have been an established presence in dance music for over ten years, with releases on Mobilee in 2005 preceding debut LP Pan-O-Rama, which launched them into the public arena in 2007. Both former students of audio engineering, Tassilo Ippenberger and Thomas Benedix are technical specialists with a deep understanding of how dancefloors work, and are loved for their impressive command of melody, rhythm and flawless production. Now three albums deep and with EPs on Einmaleins Musik, True To Form, Second State Audio and more, the pair are a powerful force in German techno, and will no doubt lay on a proper party on the most joyous night of the year.
Moving on to Matador, and we find ourselves looking at a similar prospect, the Irishman having worked as a sound engineer during his time at home in Dublin before becoming a piece in the puzzle of Richie Hawtin’s M_nus label. A party techno expert, Matador has benefited from EPs on Aciitone Digital and Perc Trax, but now stands alongside Richie H as a likeminded protege and comrade. A recipient of the Best Live Performer Ibiza at the DJ Mag awards in 2014, he is known to be spectacular both as a DJ and live artist.
New details will continue to filter through over the next few weeks, but given its reputation for marathon NYE events, we already know what to expect from EGG for this one. More artists will be announced shortly, with details of the ‘Altered States: A Tribute to Surrealism’ theme sure to follow.
