For the second part of our Zutekh and WHP Events event preview we were luck enough to catch up with One Records boss, Zutekh resident and hands down one of the best DJs in the UK, Adam Shelton. Adam has been flying the flag for seriously good underground house for years now and over the past couple of years has become an important member of the Zutekh family. Read on to get the inside scoop on what makes Zutekh so special for the One Records boss and be sure to check out this belter of mix for the WHP12 Mix series below.
Thanks for taking the time to do this Adam. Where are you right now?
I am in Berlin buzzing for the week ahead.
You guys down at Below seemed to kick off the new year in serious style a few weeks back, the Leeds contingent are still raving about it...
New years day was amazing! What a great way to start the year, I have never felt in eight years of doing below such energy and buzz, from the start to the finish people were having it! Everybody knew what they were going to get on new years day, its not like new years eve where you have random people that only go out once in a while and don’t even know what they are going out to. All the dj’s played amazing and the crowd responded. I am really excited now for our party on the 31st of march. It’s nice to have a good gap between parties as people look forward to it more.
For those who don’t already know, the past couple of years has seen you grow a strong affiliation with Zutekh. For me, it’s always my favourite party to go to. What about Zutekh does it for you ?
From the first time I played at zutekh I got a special feel about the party, the guys are always on a great vibe, their bookings are really in touch with what is going on but they still inject their own taste in the plot so this reflects on the vibe massively. I am very happy to say I am a resident for such a strong party and to be part of such a good crew.
Who have been your favourite Zutekh bookings to play alongside? Do any parties in particular stand out for you?
I am not just saying this but they are all good, my stand out ones have been warming up for cassy, this was nice as I kept it on a real slow groove but it was going off, that was nice to see, the zutekh room at cocoon at whp was a pleasure to play last year, what a vibe! But like I say they are all good. I’ll tell you if I have a bad one. You might not hear from me on that though.
This isn’t the first time you will have played the new Warehouse Project venue. How did you find your outing at November's Cocoon event?
As above the gig was great in November, the venue is top class, I was really lucky to play last in that room and it was packed, going off all night, I got to play some warehouse tracks that I have not played for years as it just suited the venue and the party so much.
You’re part of a special line up for Zutekh’s Warehouse Party next month. Is there anyone on there you’re going to be checking out on the night?
I know I will firmly in room 2 all night, I love the artists booked, I love to watch all of them, shaun & levon really play a great selection, dinky is always on the vibe and d.o.p in that room live should be off the hook so can’t wait.
Can you give us a little heads up what to expect from One Records over the coming months?
For sure! We have a great e.p just about to drop from santos resiak with remixes from the martinez brothers, then after that we have something from alex arnout with the vocals of the one and only tyree cooper ( I say buzzing my head off ) and remixes on that package from argy and my favourite lady bloody mary and plenty of nice ep’s & parties after that.
Finally, whose you’re one to watch for 2013?
For me the people who really are kicking it are john dimas, Javier carballo & hanfry martinez, Alex arnout, Samu.l, and then who I will be keeping my ears close to are yamen & EDA, Paddy lopaski, jack wickham and I am sure there will be some more names to add to this list real soon.
