[Event Preview] Tiga at XOYO, London - Saurday 17th August
Canadian dance music superstar takes to the decks at Shoreditch’s XOYO on August 17th. As a production powerhouse Tiga is the name you’ll find attached to acts such as Justice, Friendly Fires, Peaches and LCD Soundsystem, and you don’t become the go-to producer for indie pop royalty’s remixes without some serious mixing deck talent, on- or off- stage. It shouldn’t come as a surprise, therefore, that Tiga is a DJ capable of bringing out saccharine smiles from even the most determined dancefloor chin-scratchers. His sets are all about showcasing dance music’s breadth as well as depth by revealing the connections between electronic music’s variety of genres.
With a record label of his own and having had a big hand in solidifying Montreal’s reputation as a transatlantic dance music hotspot, Tiga is definitely a DJ to catch if you want to be schooled in electronic grooves. But the Tiga Non Stop compilation, released late last year, emphasised that this Canadian is one of those rare selectors: the kind that can educate and entertain in equal measure. In other words, expect plenty of fun.
It’s not every day that you get to see a DJ like Tiga mix, and especially not for four hours. Expect the kind of eclectic, mind-bending, body-moving sonic journey that plenty of selectors promise but on the rare few can actually deliver.
