Ouse with Hector Couto
Friday 3rd May
Venus Nightclub conjures mixed opinions amongst Manchester’s locals, from a shufflers paradise to a pretentious enclosure of WAG wannabe’s. Being a Venus virgin meant I jumped at the chance to review Hector Couto at the venue this weekend to develop an opinion of my own.
Venus prides itself on providing attendees with a wide range of house music, from funky and retro to hard techno and electro, supplying a steady beat for anyone who fancies a boogie. “We’d rather have quality than quantity” is the motto they claim to follow by attempting to provide a cocktail of exceptional tunes for a supposed warm and welcoming crowd.
This Friday, Venus hosted its second running of “Ouse”. The Ouse event kicked off on 5th April starring MK (Hot Creations), who played to an audience of almost 700 people. More of the same was expected when Hector Couto (Hot Creations) headlined Venus’ 2nd Ouse event on 3rd May.
On arrival, resident DJ’s aroused the party with well-known floor fillers. Most of us are more than happy to press “next” on iTunes if Miguel Campbells Somethin’ Special is heard, however when you’re out and about it never seems to get old; the same goes for Benediction and Forward Motion for that matter, but the crowd persisted to sing their hearts out.
Although drinks were priced above average, this seemed to attract a warmer crowd who weren’t there to get rowdy on cheap booze. Spending more money on drinks for a better atmosphere can only be a good thing in my eyes.
Hector Couto’s set began at 2:00AM where he was encouraged on by an eager crowd. His mixes are described as elegant, energetic and sharp, emitting a positive energy that captivates his fans. Starting with Lost Keys, the progressive build up and swishy chords kicked off his set with a boom. Later, Hector teased the partiers for a while before plummeting in with the crowd pleaser Metal, a stonker of a track he and Darius Syrossian successfully conjured up together.
Venus may not look like much from the outside, but the interior makes Venus feel more upmarket than other clubs, with lavish sofas, sexy mood lighting and even a pair of GHD’s in the girls toilets! Providing there’s a decent line up at their next Ouse event, you shouldn’t be disappointed. I’d give the club 9/10, and I was sober all night. Surely that’s saying something?!
