Sankeys Ibiza Opening
Ida Engberg & Adam Beyer, Second City, Noir, Tube & Berger and more
Thursday 21st May
The build up to the 2015 season seems to have been going on for longer than ever, with lots of new nights and names being announced for clubs all across the island. Arguably one of the most exciting looking lineups for 2015 has to be at Sankeys though. The club has been growing and growing in the last few years and is one of the few that offers some quality underground nights.
This looks set to continue as they welcome back old nights like CUFF and Tribal Sessions alongside new ones like Redlight and We Love…, which has made a big move from Space after many years there. Opening up the season is a party under no specific banner, but one that comes under the sub title Sankeys Has Awakened with something of a Stars Wars theme. The party itself lasts for two days and sees a heavy line up of stars all pop by, including Ida Engberg & Adam Beyer teaming up for a back-to-back, Second City, Noir, Tube & Berger, Argy, Manu Gonzalez, Frederico Grazzini, JP Chronic, and Frank Storm.
As we rock up on night one, there is already a sweating crowd going at it - they have clearly not liked winter and have been waiting for this moment ever since the place shut last September. Secondcity is one of the stars tipped for big things this season and he opens with a nice selection of warm up beats that do just the job.
All the rooms are open tonight and people flit between them all. There are lots of eager young workers here clearly who will be here the whole season, there are some trendy types checking out what the fuss is all about and importantly there are plenty of hardcore party people who dance non stop from start to finish. Mainly made up of UK people but with kids from across the globe, its a cosmo crowd and it makes for fine scenes when coupled with the Sankeys production.
It is fair to say that one of the standouts was a set in the LAB from blonde techno bomber Ida Ingberg. She dropped tons of rolling techno and so did her label boss and confidant, Adam Beyer. The dance floor is never less than heaving during their respective sets and it proves that there is plenty of room for techno in the island in 2015. In the Basement, which takes its cues form the original club back in Ancoats, Manchester, Tube & Berger are another hotly tipped act who come correct with their well informed house selections. Tonight was a fine start, then, and the future looks even finer for Sankeys Ibiza.
