Zutekh & Bekuz present Krystal Klear
Saturday 23
rd March
The Shipping Forecast, Liverpool

After residing in my home town of Manchester for 4 successful years, Zutekh have brought the bacon to Liverpool along with their good Irish pals Bekuz.  Both promoters have gained huge reputations in their own rights with mammoth bookings and huge followings and last Saturday saw both of those names come together and meet in the middle.  The Shipping Forecast’s Hold opened it’s arms to this eagerly anticipated dual as they made their debut appearance in the city.

Arriving with a winter chill due to March’s ghastly weather conditions, The Hold was warming up nicely with some great deep house tracks from Zutekh and Derry’s own Dave Duffy. A welcomed collection of melodic energy raptured the basement walls and the crowd shuffled along in agreeance. Passing the controls over to Grrd and Lluma, concentration was the word on their lips as the boys took control with reduced expressions. Playing ‘Close feat. Scuba – Beam Me Up (George Fitzgerald Remix)’ and ‘George Fitzgerald - Every Inch’, the crowd were gracious of their selections, as we ventured down a coordinated selection of tracks.

Passing proceedings onto Krystal Klear, he ramped up the vibes and got the already heated crowd on their toes with some more popular tracks. Unleashing his remix of the the classic ‘Crystal Waters - Gypsy Woman’, the steady shuffling mass from before had transformed into a thrashing mob of flailing arms and stomping feet. The trendy wall mounted shufflers and nodders looked on, glued to the wall like pages from Vice. It was a good night with some great tracks, I was just not sure if I felt the inferno I anticipated from such a reputable talent.  However, although he didn't provide that whole hearted retro sparkle I yearned for (swapping his love for groovy loops and disco gems for selections such as Daft Punk's Round The World and Destiny’s Child - Lose My Breath), the place was still jumping till the end.
