Record Store Day returns in 2016 to celebrate all things vinyl, featuring a number of events up and down the country hosted a independent stores. Falling on Saturday 16th April, the event has been a key part in the resurgence of vinyl sales which have continued to improve year on year over the course of the last 10 years. While the day provides a chance to get your hands on some special releases, To the DJs and casual spinners among us, vinyl embodies much more than a limited edition copy of Adele 25 gathering dust on the shelf in years to come. So rather than just celebrate purchasing some new wax this weekend, we thought we pic out a handful of events where you can catch an abundance of 7’’ and 12’’ on rotation.
Bowlers Soul All Nighter – Northern Soul, Mowtown, Modern Soul, Ska
Bowlers Exhibition Centre, Manchester
Relieve the glory days of Wigan Casino and The Blackpool Mecca at Bowlers Exhibition this Saturday as they host a Northern Soul style all nighter. With four rooms offering up the best from soul to ska, provided by a wealth of selectors, this will not be one to miss. So dig out your best sports bag and flares and hit the dancefloor like its 1975.
Nothing Stays The Same In This Sonic Sahara
Studio 24, Leeds
Nothing Stays The Same and Sonic Sahara team up to bring Dutch party starter Tom Trago to one of Leeds’ newest and most exciting venues, Studio 24. Having been an integral part of Rush Hour records’ output over the years, Trago has become equipped with a groove laden sound that is sure to keep the good vibes flowing into the early hours. There will no doubt be an enviable collection of records on display throughout the course of the night.
Tiga + Cajmere + Danny Daze
XOYO’s second quarter resident, Tiga takes the reigns for his first of 12 appearances at the London club. The Canadian DJ will be Supported by pioneer Curtis Jones appearing under his Cajmere moniker along with Hot Creation’s Danny Daze who will be bringing a healthy dose of Miami bass in record format.
House vs Disco – Record Store Day Special
Trapaze Basement, London
London House Music and The Doctors Orders join forces to present a record store day special which sees a number of top DJs trading records over the course of the night. Providing the tunes will be The Legendary Paul Trouble Anderson, Johnny Reckless (Soul Brother Records), Stuart Patterson (Love Vinyl) and Dream Traxx of Phonica Records.
Back To Basics – Brawther
One half of Dungeon Meat will be at the controls in the Wire basement this Record Store Day, as French DJ and producer Brawther provides Leeds stalwart Back To Basics with an insight to his record collection. Support will be provided by party spear head Dave Beer and TMS. No doubt a spot to hear some records that you wont find in the HMV vinyl section this weekend.
Circus – Yousef, Secondcity & Kydus
Our final selection comes courtesy of Liverpool’s Circus. Yousef brings his party back to the capital for another instalment at Egg which sees himself at the 1s and 2s along with Secondcity and Kydus.
