The Southampton Common will be hosting the first ever Common People Festival this year on May the 23rd and 24th. Coming straight from the guys who bring us Bestival, curator and creative director Rob Da Bank has extrapolated his innate musical knowledge to bring a host of world class artists to the both the Common and to Southampton’s widely revered music venue The Joiners, where a second stage The Uncommon People will be set.
The main stage will see the biggest names in dance, soul, hip-hop and more amalgamating together in a fury of nothing but good music. On the common you will be able to catch the likes of Fatboy Slim, Jaguar Skills, DJ Yoda and De La Soul on the Saturday, whilst Sunday will see Grace Jones, Clean Bandit and Band Of Skulls joined by further guests of the ilk of The Cuban Brothers and Craig Charles.
The Big Top will be where all the serious dance music can be found, with Chicago heavyweight Derrick Carter and new school favourites Dusky headlining proceedings on either day, with Huxley, Secondcity, Dense & Pika, Jeremy Underground Paris, Friend Within and Waze & Odyssey also appearing across the weekend. The Uncommon Stage, which will be set inside The Joiners, will welcome the stars of tomorrow in Jaws, Pale Seas, Dexters, Smiles, Seán McGowan, Dead Rabbits, Science Of Eight Limbs and The Rising, to name but a few.
In a fashion in keeping with Rob Da Banks creative festival ideas there will also be a hoard of other happenings at many different venues around the city centre. The Jam Jam Bar, The Day Of The Dead Margarita Lounge, The People’s Front Room and The Lodge will be just some of the locations that will be offering activities from face painting to wine tasting.
