Life is always better with a soundtrack, and time spent hard at work in the office is no different. Therefore, coming your way every Tuesday will be album of the week; a release we can't contain our excitement for or a record we have been reluctant to take off repeat since its first play. We’ll be putting the time in to explore the world of new releases on a quest to bring you the best. While we’re at it, just because we’re feeling generous, we’ll be digging deep into our collections and giving classic albums the airplay they deserve.
(Lil Tracey was released December 2nd)
Okay, so you may have noticed there is a distinct lack of album in this week’s TA Album Of The Week. But when in-form London lyricist AJ Tracey drops brand new EP Lil Tracey, it’s only fair that we take notice. Bringing some much needed fire to heat to this cold December, Lil Tracey caps off a stellar year for the West London MC, standing him in good stead to snatch the king of grime crown in 2017.
Comprising of 21 minutes of unadulterated fire, the EP sees Tracey works his effervescent beats into the ground with a frank and unnerving delivery, opening things up with ‘They Said’ proclaiming: “they said I would always be a waste, they said I would never get big - f**k what they said, ‘coz I’m here”. Following up his statement of intent with the trap influenced ‘Luke Cage’ and tracks featuring Chip and Remy Banks, Lil Tracey makes a serious point in very little time. In a year that the grime scene has kept on giving, Lil Tracey comes as an early Christmas present, and doesn’t disappoint. You can listen to the EP below.
