Here at Ticket Arena, we like to keep our eyes peeled - and more importantly our ears close to the ground in terms of the freshest of releases, which is why our office and our home speakers are constantly soundtracking our hard day’s work with some of the newest sounds out there. We’re here to share our favourites, as every Monday we’re committed to delivering our Album Of The Week, featuring the albums that caught our attention, the artists that deserve the recognition and simply put, the absolute bops that made us move.
It feels like years since Childish Gambino surprised fans with the politically charged, knife sharp single ‘This is America’. But it’s accompanying theatrical video, laden with striking imagery as well as hidden messages and metaphors to detail police brutality, racial prejudices and the US’ lax gun legislation has stayed with viewers ever since. Which is why yet another - more palatable - surprise album release from the rapper come-actor, come-comedian, come-screenwriter is a welcome distraction from all the uncertainty in the world right now. As Glover’s first full length release since the breakthrough funk beats of 2016’s Awaken, My Love!, this project reveals a steady development from him as an artist, revealing more polished production. Featuring top acts and showbiz friends such as Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and more, this crossover record takes listeners on a funk fuelled journey and arrives at its hip hop destination via samples, cut up beats and more. 3.15.20 is the silver lining that 2020 needed right now.
