With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
Manchester has produced some big things in the music world, from the likes of FAC51 The Hacienda all the way to the new wave bands taking the era by storm and all of this goes without mentioning the iconic Britpop scene that put the city on the map. The city’s latest notable musical export however, comes in the form of laid back hip-hop duo Children Of Zeus, who have not only dominated the festival scene this year, but have just released their debut album. For Tyler Daley and Konny Kon, the ordinary sounds of classic hip hop beats isn’t enough, and although those elements are certainly heard in their take on the genre, a more soulful approach is what makes this premier record so special. These lads have managed to squeeze so much into a thirteen track journey through their musical influences, hitting the marks of jazz, R&B, reggae, dub and more, but don’t take our word for it - listen below via Spotify.
Children of Zeus have a busy festival schedule ahead of them and will be delivering live versions of these album track plus more from the back catalogue at Soundwave Festival taking place in the last weekend of July, as well as Dimensions Festival which takes place between Wednesday 29th August and Sunday 2nd September. They’ll also be heading to Outlook Festival between the dates of Wednesday 5th and Monday 10th September, as well as Hospitality In The Park, which takes over London’s Finsbury Park on Saturday 22nd September.
