With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
Following the release of her 2016 critically-acclaimed debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, Courtney Barnett achieved major recognition for her work that later led to a number of industry award nominations, including Best International Female at the 2016 Brits and Best New Artist at the 2016 Grammys, as well as witnessing her first album reach the top 20 of the Australia, UK and US pop charts.
The Melbourne singer/songwriter recently announced the release of her highly-anticipated second album titled Tell Me How You Really Feel, and this creation - featuring the singles ‘Nameless, Faceless’ and ‘City Looks Pretty’ - is a true masterpiece of made-to-be indie anthems that showcase Barnett’s modest and goofy writing style in their rawest form - something her fans have come to love in her humorous approach to songwriting about everyday problems faced during her time on the road as a touring musician. With the grunge-inspired sound originating from her fascination at a young age for bands such as Nirvana, the Australian superstar continues to demonstrate her musical roots in each song, not falling victim to the sell-out qualities that come with commercial success.
Courtney Barnett is confirmed to tour across Europe this summer, including a headline show at O2 Academy Leeds on Tuesday 29th May.
