With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
Strictly speaking it’s not an album, but we don’t always follow the rules and Santan Dave’s new EP Game Over is more than worthy of this slot as he’s self-released seven tracks of pure, unadulterated heat. Only racking up at just over half an hour running time, the 19 year old goes in on hard-hitting topics as he talks politics on the aptly named ‘Question Time’, in which he talks about the state of the NHS, Brexit, his opinions on figures like Theresa May, David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn. ‘How I Met My Ex’ includes sombre piano backing (that was written, produced and played by the rapper himself) as the young star tells his story of heartbreak in the social media age with a more mature perspective than what’s often told in hip hop tracks. Having not even hit 20 years old, Dave has collaborated with the likes of J Hus, AJ Tracey and has even gained a remix from international hip hop hero Drake - now he can add this EP to his list of achievements as it’s certainly helping the rapper on his way up.
Dave will be hitting Bristol’s Motion venue on Friday 1st December, delivering his bars live to a sold out audience. See what Motion has coming up.
