Life is always better with a soundtrack, and time spent hard at work in the office is no different. Therefore, coming your way every Tuesday will be album of the week; a release we can't contain our excitement for or a record we have been reluctant to take off repeat since its first play. We’ll be putting the time in to explore the world of new releases on a quest to bring you the best. While we’re at it, just because we’re feeling generous, we’ll be digging deep into our collections and giving classic albums the airplay they deserve.
Winter is in decline, and with it nature hops toward Easter with a spring in its step. Always one to channel these brighter horizons in her music is British/Nigerian soul sister Eno Williams and her band Ibibio Sound Machine, who’s latest LP Uyai scuttles its way in as our Album Of The Week.
Throwing together a feverish blend of West African rhythms, protruding basslines and mesmeric vocal hooks that swap dialects with an unerring charm, Uyai is an album that boasts impressive stamina, upholding a hummingbird like buzz from start right through to finish.
You can listen to Uyai below via Spotify.
This May Ibibio Sound Machine will be encapsulating the summer as sun as they hit the stage at The Great Escape in Brighton.
