Life is always better with a soundtrack, and time spent hard at work in the office is no different. Therefore, coming your way every Tuesday will be album of the week; a release we can't contain our excitement for or a record we have been reluctant to take off repeat since its first play. We’ll be putting the time in to explore the world of new releases on a quest to bring you the best. While we’re at it, just because we’re feeling generous we’ll be digging deep into our collections and giving classic albums the airplay they deserve.
(Every Now & The is released Friday 14th October)
This week’s featured LP comes from Australian psych-dance trio Jagwar Ma and their forthcoming album Every Now & Then. The 11 track record which hits the shelves Friday 14th October is the second full length effort from the Sydney band, following up their lauded 2013 debut Howlin’.
Unloading contorting grooves worthy of Madchester anthem status, Every Know & Then sees Jagwar Ma remain at their experimental best: building tracks with dancefloor mechanics and delivering with indie accessibility, consciously joining the hands of ravers and gig goers in hedonistic unison.
While further exports from the Australia’s prevailing psych wave continue to blow off the dust on revivalist rock, Jagwar Ma have provided the antidote to those eager to take their first steps in the world of dance. Here on Every Now & Then, Jagwar Ma distort generic song structures with the freedom and exploration electronic music instils.
Thanks to single releases ‘O B 1’ and ‘Give Me A Reason’ teeing up the album, Jagwar Ma have already caught the attention in the world of dance and alternative. With elongated songs, pulsing bass, chopped vocals, and guitars still in hand; Jagwar Ma and Every Now & Then further demonstrates their ability to exercise a creative freedom while defying genre boundaries. Rightly so.
Jagwar Ma play Marble Factory Bristol Sunday 23rd October.
