With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Monday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
Having already gained millions of streams on his massive solo tracks, including ‘Your Mrs’, ‘Becky’ and ‘Mocking It’, JAY1
released his brand new album One Wave
last Friday. Only 22 years old, the Coventry rapper has been making huge waves in the grime scene recently. The EP is nine tracks long, including the recent signature track ‘Your Mrs’ that has made it into the top 20 of the UK’s Official Top 40.
As well as featuring JAY1’s recent top hits, the album includes fresh tracks that contribute to his excellent showcase of his true talent. With summertime now being in full flow, the dropping of this mixtape benefits us just as much as it benefits JAY1 - as our summer soundtrack is now sorted. Certain tracks to look out for are ‘Good Vibes’ and ‘Comes First (fear. Hakkz)’, as they create that feel good, summery feel. An outstanding factor from the album is that JAY1 has proved to us his versatility as an artist, with the bouncing track and hard lyrics coming from ‘Ay’, to then switching to a more sentimental, slower feel found in ‘Tropical Love’. Although his music career has only just begun, with the release of One Wave
we can only expect major moves from the grime superstar as he continues to move from strength to strength.
Catch JAY1 performing at BBC Radio 1XTRA in Ibiza on Saturday 3rd August.
