With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Monday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
They say third time’s a charm, and when Jordan Rakei’s first two albums were already such a high standard of experimental yet incredible projects, suffice to say his latest release was held to that very same standard. Luckily for both Rakei and his ever-growing fanbase, Origin might be his best yet, with a combination of his staple experimental production and some soulful pop sensibilities creating a truly perfect landscape for his profound vocals. Jordan Rakei has recently spent time in the studio with none other than Nile Rodgers, and that shows through in this latest project, with some added elements of funk and disco that could be straight out of Chic, causing danceable beats amongst cut up samples and jazzy intervals.
Jordan Rakei joins the likes of Four Tet, Friendly Fires, Jon Hopkins, Floating Points, slowthai, Akala and more at this year’s Nova Batida Festival, taking place between Friday 13th and Monday 16th September.
