With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in new music that we think you should hear.
Seven years since their last release and six since they had announced their curtain call but the cult Brooklyn band are back, delivering the same intriguing and enticing sound that allowed them to gain their huge following in the first place - which included the late and great Bowie, who fans can thank for the reformation of the widely celebrated outfit. Following the release of teaser track ‘tonite’ which offered fans a pulsating funky beat accompanied by Al Green of Hot Chip on guitar, American Dream continues to push the boundaries of genre mixing, as each track is the perfect combination of sounds that bridges the mammoth gap between their house and disco style and indie with somewhat melancholy post punk style vocals from main man James Murphy. While the title track of the album sways more to the sombre sounds of the band, with a ballad style time signature and reverb soaked backing vocals to match, follow up ’emotional haircut’ peaks at a crescendo of krautrock style drums and drones of a garage tinged guitar solo, adding a slightly psychedelic element to an already eclectic record.
LCD Soundsystem will be part of this year’s WHP Season, opening proceedings at the infamous Store Street venue.
