Life is always better with a soundtrack, and time spent hard at work in the office is no different. Therefore, coming your way every Tuesday will be album of the week; a release we can't contain our excitement for or a record we have been reluctant to take off repeat since its first play. We’ll be putting the time in to explore the world of new releases on a quest to bring you the best. While we’re at it, just because we’re feeling generous, we’ll be digging deep into our collections and giving classic albums the airplay they deserve.
In spite of the warm synths that have characterised their music for the best for part of the last decade, Little Dragon always carried an enigmatic, chilling presence – notably brought about through lead singer Yukimi Nagano’s wholesome yet sorrowful tones. On album number five, Season High, the only chills come from a sweeping summer breeze that radiates from this seasonally in-tune record.
Packed to the rafters with suitable summer soundtracks, Season High sees Little Dragon take a step away from the shadows and indulge their refined pop sensibilities, producing the brightest and most hedonistic record in the band’s discography. Twinkling keys, synths that spread like butter left out in the July sun, rousing bass, and vocals that never fail to captivate; the back to basics approach on Season High brings Little Dragon back to the best form.
