With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
A unique story into success, as it was her mentor Pharrell’s emotive reaction to single ‘Alaska’ that garnered Maggie Roberts the deserved attention of millions worldwide, and boy are we grateful for the power of the internet as her awaited debut does not disappoint. Setting expectations high already with that stand-alone single, Rogers’ first ever release is a testament to her consistent undisputed talents, as she’s completely claimed the shimmering electro-pop genre as her own, tinting it with R&B inspired beats and her soulful vocals. Far from a one trick pony though, although it’s the synth pop power and hip hop rhythms that dominates the majority of the record, ballad ‘Past Life’ sits at the heart of the album, and offers a contrasting palette cleanser of a Fleetwood Mac-eqsue piano and raw vocal combination. Maggie Rogers brings live performances of these songs to Manchester’s O2 Ritz on Monday 18th February.
