With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
It’s been quite the couple of years for Croydon singer and rapper Stefflon Don. Since the release of her ‘Real Ting’ mixtape in 2016, she’s gone on to claim dates on stages all over the world, winning Best Female at the MOBO Awards, as well as Best Newcomer at the NME Awards and a host of other titles in her goal of complete and utter world domination. Her newest release ‘Secure’ only furthers her cause. With an extensive track list that features guest verses from the likes of Fekky, Sean Paul, Popcaan, DJ Khaled, Ebenezer and more - adding to her already impressive list of collaborators that included the likes of French Montana, Ghetts and Jax Jones - Don manages to continue to blend the worlds of grime, RnB and afrobeat in her own unique way. Lyrically, Don continuously and fearlessly addresses a topic often seen as taboo: sexuality. It’s a characteristic of her music that Don thanks rapper Lil’ Kim for, as she clearly pays homage to The Notorious K.I.M. cover in her own artwork.
Stefflon Don promises to deliver some bars from this mixtape - as well as some stand out tracks from her back catalogue at this year’s Boundary Brighton Festival taking place on Saturday 29th September.
