With the sweetest of sounds coming from the speakers of the Ticket Arena office it would be mighty selfish of us to keep them to ourselves, so we thought we’d let you in on what our staff use to soundtrack a hard day’s work. Now a weekly feature with the intent of bringing your attention to wonderful new sounds every Tuesday, our Album Of The Week looks at releases from the best in the game, whether fresh new acts about to hit the big time or established artists reminding the world of their continued talent. Simply put, it’s just the best in music that we think you should hear.
With one of the punks greatest icons of all time disappointing generations of fans - Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten recently came out in support of some questionable political views - it’s a trying time to identify as a punk. Yet, there’s hope for the genre while there are some fresh-faced youngsters that call out the things they stand against and do so while making a lovely racket at the same time. Californian punk rockers SWMRS deliver several messages within their new sophomore album, but the consistent statement that this record displays is that punk certainly isn’t dead, it’s here, clear as day, and it’s had a much-needed rebrand. With melodic, acid-washed riffs layered underneath cutting vocals of love, loss, politics, the punk ethos is shown through their no qualms attitude in their songwriting, with anger-driven lyrics directly addressing politicians, the right wing and the injustices for the band’s generation. SWMRS take on London’s Community Festival on Sunday 30th June alongside the likes of The Kooks, Blossoms, Don Broco, The Hunna. Kate Nash and more.
