Three years is a long time to wait for a debut release, and when a band like The Magic Gang have been appearing on festival bills for the majority of that time, only offering out live teasers of what’s to come - it can feel like a lifetime. While a lengthy introductory stint into the world of music can askew and astray the creative intentions of a collective, the Brighton based quartet have succeeded in creating a full length self-titled debut of carefully considered aimable indie sounds. While most guitar-based bands take influence from the riff driven versions of the genre, it’s the harmonious Beach Boy-style vocals accompanied by simple Weezer influenced chord sequences that stand out in making The Magic Gang’s album a refreshing treat in the world of indie.
