Among Croatia’s packed festival season, Hideout is one of the most established events, and so there’s plenty of excitement bubbling up with only a few months left to go before the 2017 edition gets underway. Featuring a plethora of big names including Major Lazer, Marco Carola, Stormzy, Diplo, Jamie Jones and MK, the festival covers many different branches of the electronic music festival. We thought we’d pick out a few of the essentials nice and early this year.
Canadian dance producer Tiga has more strut than your average house DJ, and he’ll be putting it to good use in Croatia. Winding together some of the weirder threads of techno to create ropes for swinging between dimensions, Tiga plays music that will draw you in and trip you out.
There’s a storm coming to Hideout, but for once it’s better to get hit than to stay inside. Thunderous techno from Rødhåd, the head of the fearsome label Dystopian, will shake your bones and melt your brains, providing a brutal workout for body and mind alike. Definitely not one for the fainthearted, but essential if you’re brave enough.
If you’re into grime, then this man’s got an offer that you can’t refuse. A big year in 2016 saw the a resurgence of the Godfather of grime, with the release of his eleventh and most likely final album, following in January. Having reached number 9 in the UK charts and was hailed as one of grime’s founding fathers reclaiming his creation. If you don’t already know why Wiley is considered grime royalty, you will do by the time the curtain falls on Hideout.
A flag-bearer for the ultra-stylish techno that has long been associated with Berlin, Anja Schneider made her entry into music through radio work, with a stint as producer at KissFM before Fritz Radio made her into a popular presenter. Taking little time to use that springboard to launch an international DJing career, Anja has seen her clean, groovy brand of house and techno get dancefloors bouncing across the world.
T.Q.D. (ROYAL T / DJ Q / FLAVA D)
A UKG triple attack in the form of Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D, T.Q.D. are up there with the hottest DJs in the UK, with their stylish urban sounds earning them a huge reputation amongst house, garage and UK bass crowds. Re-popularising London sounds that have been somewhat dormant as techno and house became the country’s default dance music, TQD are the ones to watch if you fancy joining the return to bass music dominance.
Hideout Festival runs from Monday 26th June until Saturday 1st July at Zrce Beach in Novalja.
