In:Motion have just announced the names booked for the Bristol warehouse this coming autumn, and so there’s no better time than now to start thinking about which to get tickets for. Blessed (or maybe cursed) with a large crop of talent to choose from, we’ve struggled for hours to narrow it down to our top five must-see sets in the new season at Motion. Here’s what we’re saying.
Craig Richards - In:Motion Friday Opening Party
Friday 30th September
Fabric resident and Ricardo Villalobos’ favourite late morning sparring partner, Craig Richards has one of the most intriguing record collections of any DJ. Phones in pockets boys and girls; you could search for a lifetime and you probably still won’t find that perfect track. Never mind, you’ll just have to let Craig play it for you.
Newham Generals - The Blast: Halloween
Friday 28th October
Halloween will be a grimey affair if Newham Generals get their way, and the duo usually do. Consisting of D Double E and Footsie, Newham Generals are a formidable pairing, and shows with them at the helm are likely to be a rowdy affair. Accomplices on the night include Royal T, DJ Q and Flava D’s “TQD”, as well as Shy FX and Baauer.
Marcellus Pittman - Just Jack: Halloween
Saturday 29th October
As one quarter of 3 Chairs, Marcellus Pittman shouldn’t need too much introducing. A master behind the decks, the Detroit legend stands shoulder to shoulder with friends and contemporaries Moodymann and Theo Parrish, sure to go down as one of the greatest Detroit DJs of recent decades. Deeply disco, his selection is up there with the very best, and he’ll be the unmissable pick of a lineup that also includes Marcel Dettmann, Pender Street Steppers and Jane Fitz.
An Evening With… Joy Orbison
Saturday 12th November
Undisputably one of the UK’s best producers, Joy O always draws a crowd for his selection abilities as well, and will be given free reign for the whole night in November. A specialist in everything from techno through UKG and into jungle, he will have no trouble in keeping things interesting for the duration. Recent performances at Dekmantel, for whom he also recorded a new mix just last week, have highlighted that he’s a DJ capable of living up to the extraordinary hype.
Avalon Emerson - Crack Magazine
Saturday 10th December
The American producer is arguably one of the most exciting young DJs to rise through the ranks in the last few years, and her engaging sets have been supported by a string of excellent releases on labels like Spring Theory, Icee Hot and Whities. Easily pulling together house, techno and disco, Avalon flits between genres with impressive technicality, taking the same creatively calculated approach to mixing that she does to production duties. She will join the likes of Rødhåd and Daniel Avery at the request of Crack Magazine.
In:Motion lineups and ticket links can be found here, and as you might have guessed, tickets are selling fast.
