From the groovy disco sounds coming from their most recent release ‘Fishing For Fishies’, to the heavy metal sounds of upcoming record (and second release of 2019 already!), ‘Infest the Rats' Nest’, expect a truly unique show from this psychedelic outfit King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard if you ever have the opportunity to experience the band live. Formed almost a decade ago in Melbourne Australia, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard are one of the most eclectic bands to this date. With upcoming shows scheduled within the UK, we’ve put together a list of tracks you simply must listen to.
Fishing For Fishies
With a feel-good, catchy guitar melody, paired together with light vocals speaking about fish - or in this case ‘fishies’ - ‘Fishing For Fishies’ is a rather contrasting track compared to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s other work. Focusing on a more lighthearted note, ‘Fishing For Fishies’ is a good representation of the Aussie band’s versatility.
‘Rattlesnake’ is arguably the best example on what kind of sounds and elements to expect from King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. Including each typical ingredient, catchy lyrics, one-note rhythm section, although this time round the band experimented with new instruments that were tuned to Arabic microtonal scales. This track will be stuck in your head for quite some time.
Renowned for its crazy music video, ‘People-Vultures’ has been regarded as the ‘weirdest music video’, whether it’s because of their crazy use of props or the giant-sized cardboard monster that took three weeks to build. Regardless of the bizarre video, the track is a rock smash hit, with a fast guitar pace that you’ll want to keep up with.
Being the track from their album Quarters, ‘The River’ features laid back guitars, sweet vocals making the track a wowing introduction to the album. The tempo increases half way through, and it truly does get you going. This King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard track is another nice showcasing of the band’s versatility.
