Festival Picks: Croatia 2016

Festival Picks: Croatia 2016

Over the past couple of years, Croatia has really come into its own in the world of clubbing. Now considered one of the best places to party in the world, argued by some to be a similar calibre to The White Isle, there are now more than a handful of festivals going on throughout the summer all over the island. With many fronting cutting edge house and techno and others favouring dub, reggae and hip-hop, there is one for everyone. If you’re thinking about heading to Croatia this summer, here’s some info on what’s going on over the summer season.

Hideout
Sunday 26th June – Friday 1st July
Zrce Beach, Pag Island
Hideout is one of the most popular festivals on the island, and one that utilizes almost all of the clubs that line Zrce Beach. The likes of Jamie XX, J.E.S.U.S., Skepta, Jamie Jones, Andy C, Gorgon City and MK will be playing alongside a generous line up bringing together house, techno, D&B and more. All these artists will be playing at venues like Kalypso, Aquarius and Papaya, with plenty of stuff on through the day going on too, as well as the night. There are several accommodation options at Hideout and VIP ticket options also available.

Electric Elephant
Thursday 7th July – Monday 11th July
The Garden Tisno, Tisno
The Garden Tisno is where Electric Elephant holds home and will be returning on July 7th. A private cove is where this luxury resort is hidden, away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and with one of the most stunning beaches lining the Adriatic Sea. A beachside stage, main stage and Barbarella’s infamous disco will be where all the DJs perform, with this year bringing with it the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Auntie Flo, Bicep, Kerri Chandler, Boo Williams, Jane Fitz, Steffi, Ralph Lawson and much more.

Soundwave
Thursday 4th August – Monday 8th August
The Garden Tisno, Tisno
Another of Tisno’s exciting music festivals is Soundwave. Geared more towards funk, soul, jazz and hip-hop, Soundwave again uses all of Tisno’s idyllic music venues including Barbarella’s, with artists playing all day and night. One of the festival highlights that has had people talking however is not the music, but the international Donkey Racing Championships that take place at the same time as the festival. Playing over the weekend are the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Calibre, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Craig Charles, Riot Jazz and Alexander Nut.

Dimensions
Thursday 25th August – Monday 29th August
Fort Punta Christo, Croatia
Dimensions and its sister festival Outlook are unique to all other festivals on the island of Croatia. Where other festivals host their parties on Zrce Beach and at holiday resorts, Dimensions takes place at Fort Punta Christo, which is arguably one of the most stunning festival locations in the world. Stages that include The Moat, The Clearing and Mungo’s Arena will be hosting other worldly house techno and more from DJ of the ilk of Larry Heard, Moritz Von Oswald, Octave One, Richie Hawtin, Mood II Swing, Ben Klock and much more. There is also a very special opening concert in the ruins of an amphitheatre, where you can see Massive Attack, Kamasi Washington and Moodymann.

Outlook
Wednesday 31st August – Sunday 4th September
Fort Punta Christo, Croatia
As the sister festival of Dimensions, Outlook also takes place at the stunning For Punta Christo, however here house and techno is swapped out for dub, grime, dancehall, D&B and other bass heavy sounds. The Clearing, The Void, Moat and all other stages will be where you can see the likes of Andy C, Stormzy, Kano, Joey Bada$$, Jah Shaka, Goldie, London Elektricity, Mala, Hazard, S.P.Y. The amphitheatre will also open Outlook, with Damian Marley, Slum Village, Iration Steppas and ASM playing here.
