Festival Picks: September 2016

Festival season may be winding down for 2016, but its a case of saving some of the best until last with a selection of day, weekend and all inclusive festivals all still set to come. Hospitality In The Park dares to go where no Drum & Bass event has gone before by hosting a multi stage festival in the heart of London. The Social Festival returns with its usual dose of Balaeric fantasy while Mint Festival will be taking up residence in Leeds City Centre with a star studded cast of the usual Mint favourites and a few eyebrow raising suprises. Annie Mac will be hosting 3 huge All Day Raves in Birmingham, Leeds and London before October brings the inuagral Circle Festival in Sheffield. The summer days may be in the minority, but there are plenty of reasons to look forward to September. Here's our picks for the month.

Lockdown Festival
Powederham Castle, Exeter
Saturday 10th September – Sunday 11th September
Lockdown Festival will descend on Powederham for a weekend of pop and D&B as two stages bring in some of the biggest Britpop artists and drum & bass DJs around. The main stage will feature several Top 10 selling artists, whilst the second stage will be hosted by Andy C’s RAM Records and London Elektricity’s Hospitality imprint on the Sunday.

The Social
Kent County Show Ground, Maidstone
Friday 9th September – Saturday 10th September
Spearheaded by Nic Fanciulli of Saved Records, The Social is a two-day festival taking place at the Kent County Showground in Maidstone, with the weekend long event having become one of the most exciting festivals in the south since it launched in 2013. With two instalments now taking place throughout the year, each boasts a stellar line up of DJs, regularly including exclusive back to backs and live performances. This year sees two stages in action on Friday and four on Sunday, with special guests appearing on almost all of them.

Line Up: Andrew Weatherall, Sasha B2B John Digweed, Eats Everything, Guy Gerber, Enzo Siragusa, Carl Cox B2B Nic Fanciulli, Hot Since 82, Dubfire, Laurent Garnier, Pan-Pot, DJ Zinc, LTJ Bukem, Gerd Janson Bicep & more.

FarOut Festival
Back Lane, Colne
Saturday 10th September – Sunday 11th September
FarOut Festival returns for its third year, during which there will be three arenas featuring a wide array of sounds providing something for everyone. There will be a house and techno arena hosted by DF and Infectious, a rock & roll stage curated by Irrigated Soul and also a sunset terrace that will provide a mix of everything from hip-hop and funk to house.

Line Up: Special Guest TBC, Adam Shelton, Kazabian, DJ Woody, Nicola Bear, Vibe Killers, Beats Of Rage DJs & more.

On Blackheath 2016
Blackheath Common, London
Saturday 10th September
Blackheath Common will be alive with music over the weekend of the 10th September as On Blackheath provides three stages on both days, featuring some great bands and DJs. With the main stage bringing some of the biggest bands and electronic music groups in from the UK and beyond, as well as stages hosted by NTS, iD Mobile and Heavenly Recordings, there will be plenty to choose from

Line Up: Primal Scream, Hot Chip, Roisin Murphy, Belle & Sebastian, James, Thundercat, Neneh Cherry, Jazzie B, Don Letts, Soak, St Etienne, Craig Charles’ Funk N Soul club & more.

Roundhay Park, Leeds
Saturday 17th September
To the delight of all the residents of Leeds Roundhay Park has recently been granted a license for music events once again, which is being taken advantage of straight away with a one day festival, OnRoundhay. Featuring some great bands who will play throughout the day and evening, this is set to be a great first gig that will usher in many more to come.

Line Up: Primal Scream, James, Wolf Alice, Max Jury & The Haggis Horns

Boundary Brighton
Stanmer Park, East Sussex
Saturday 17th September
Boundary Brighton will be holding its inaugural festival this year, with its first occurrence shaping up to make a bold mark on the festival scene on the South coast. Each stage at Stanmer Park will see local venues like Concorde 2, The Arch and Patterns teaming up with world renowned music brands including Mixmag, Elrow and LWE to host a flurry of DJs who will play from midday until 10pm. Expect fancy dress, inflatables and everything from house and techno to drum & bass and dub.

Line Up: Seth Troxler, Wilkinson, Joy Orbison, Bondax, Jungle, Snakehips, Toddla T, Tom Trago, Congo Natty, Gentleman’s Dub Club, Submotion Orchestra, Solardo & more.

Mint Festival
The Tetley, Leeds
Saturday 24th September
Mint Festival makes a move to the inner city as the one-day electronic extravaganza curated by one of the most celebrated clubs in the UK returns. Over the past few years Mint Festival has expanded to be one of the most diverse dance festivals in the north, with last year even seeing a second day added. Returning in 2016 with its one-day appearance in September we will see several stages showcasing a wide range of sounds including house, techno, drum & bass, trance and more. Past stage hosts have included System, Elrow, Set One Twenty, Jungle Jam and Goodgreef, so expect more of the same high quality this year.

Bugged Out! In Dreamland
Dreamland Margate, Kent
Saturday 24th September
Bugged Out! heads to a brand new location in Margate’s Dreamland to throw a party like you will have never seen before. Dance away to the most cutting edge electronic music artists whilst enjoying unlimited rides on the attractions in Britain’s most celebrated theme park. There’s the country’s oldest roller coaster, Top Spin, the Ferris Wheel and countless other classic theme park rides that you can get a ride on in between DJ sets from some of the most in demand house and techno artists around

Line Up:  The Martinez Brothers, Groove Armada, Jackmaster, Richy Ahmed, Ben UFO, Joy Orbison, Artwork, Lemmy Ashton & Harry James.

Hospitality In The Park
Finsbury Park, London
Saturday 24th September
Hospital Records is one of the most renowned drum & bass labels in the world, with its mark be it through releases, parties and this one-day festival in London having been well established. This year marks 20 years of the imprint and as a celebration Hospitality In The Park will be hosting its biggest year yet. With five stages taking over Finsbury Park in London there will be an earth shattering amount of bass heard from hosts including Rampage, Hospitality, Dub Phizix & Strategy’s ‘Well Good Do’, The Doctors Orders and Soul In Motion Meets Med School. Expect to hear D&B from all corners of the spectrum all day evening.

The AMP All Day Raves
Saturday 24th September, Sunday 25th September & Saturday 1st October
Birmingham, Leeds & London
Annie Mac will be setting off around the country to host a number of mini festivals dubbed the Annie Mac Presents All Day Raves. Taking place at The Rainbow Venues in Birmingham, Canal Mills in Leeds and also Tobacco Dock in London, these parties will see lengthy line ups of talent from all areas of the electronic music spectrum, be it house, drum & bass, techno, grime and everything in between.

Fly Open Air
Ross Band Stand, Edinburgh
Saturday 24th September
Edinburgh will be hosting a new festival this September in Fly Open Air. Taking place in the grounds of Edinburgh Castle there will be a small but seriously good selection of house and techno aficionados and a live headline performance from Booka Shade.

Line Up: Booka Shade, Mr G, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Detroit Swindle, Theo Kottis & more TBA.

Circle Festival
Don Valley Bowl, Sheffield
Saturday 1st October
Wired Events and Voodoo Sheffield is teaming up to host Circle Festival at The Don Valley Bowl in Sheffield this year, which will see the city’s biggest promoters putting together the newest and biggest indoor/outdoor dance music festival with four big top tents and one thousand people set to land there. Tickets are open for pre-registration now with super early bird tickets on sale soon.
