Festival Spotlight: Shockout 2018

Festival Spotlight: Shockout 2018

Hospital Records have come such a long way from the days when the label was simply a platform for Chris Goss and Tony Colman (London Elektricity) to share their own drum and bass music.

More than two decades since the imprint was conceived they have gone on to build up a hugely impressive and diverse roster of artists whilst also taking bold strides into the promotion space, establishing Hospitality.

The last few years in particular have seen them take gargantuan strides in terms of the events they have hosted, including the hugely successful Hospitality in the Park festival, which attracted an incredible 12,000 dnb lovers last year. 2018 promises to be another spectacular year starting with the perfect winter warmer. Shockout, which is to take over the idyllic setting of The Bath and West Showground, is set to be a mesmeric bass music offering guaranteed to provide a sumptuous aural remedy for the traditionally cold and gloomy winter months when it takes place on Saturday 24th February.

Teaming up with The Blast, a mecca for underground music spanning numerous genres, the two brands have assembled some of the finest names for the first ever edition. With everything from the dubstep sounds of Caspa, rap and grime talents of J Hus as well as a heavyweight dnb ensemble including High Contrast, Metrik and Dimension, this festival is the winter utopia for bass music fans.

One to watch: J Hus
The English artist is the sole rap representative on the Shockout line-up but he is an act that is sure to provide an electrifying and supercharged performance in front of a mic. Signed to one of the heavyweight independent labels, Black Butter Records, the 22-year-old has already enjoyed considerable success, earning a top ten hit just last year.

This man’s rhyming talents even earned him a place on the critically acclaimed debut album of grime superstar Stormzy which gives you a clear indication of how much his peers appreciate his work.

If you fancy a change from the typically earth-shattering sounds of dnb and dubstep then be sure to check out this British rapper, who is guaranteed to provoke a mass of flailing limbs when he takes to the stage.

One to watch: Danny Byrd
A man that has been associated with Hospital Records from the very beginning, Danny Byrd will always be regarded as one of the most prominent artists to grace the imprint.

The Bristolian is hugely respected throughout the entire dnb spectrum and has garnered a reputation for playing all kinds of sounds within the genre, whenever he takes to the decks.

You might like rollers or be partial to a bit of a jump up. Whatever style makes your feet feel heavy Danny Byrd will be sure to cater for your musical needs. For someone who has been so integral to the dnb scene for so many years this is one artist you can’t afford to miss.
