Mix Of The Week: Ben UFO

Mix Of The Week: Ben UFO

Andrew Kemp | Features & Interviews

There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.

Ben UFO has for some time now been widely regarded as one of the best underground DJs in the world, earning rave reviews after nearly every set regardless of where in the world he plays. A technically immaculate mixer whose ability to choose the right track for every moment has been lauded near and far, the Hessle Audio co-founder is one of the most popular selectors around, with his sets skipping between the UK bass and techno sounds of his esteemed label as well as plenty of tangents into disco, house and less dancefloor-familiar genres. Recently performing in Marrakech for Red Light Radio, he threw together sounds from across the musical spectrum, with clattering percussion breaks carving up Middle Eastern influences including the beautiful Persian vocals of Nu’s “Man O To”. As relentlessly interesting as ever, the mix was a shoe-in for our latest Mix Of The Week.

Ben UFO’s talent is matched only by his hard work, and true to form he’ll be popping up in a variety of places over the course of this autumn and winter. A headline set at Invisible Wind Factory for ENRG is among the most exciting, with Call Super joining him for the Merseyside party on Friday 24th November. December will then see a crazy lineup of Moodymann, Hunee, Tama Sumo, Palms Trax and Helena Hauff joining Ben UFO at Motion for the Crack Magazine In:Motion takeover in Bristol. That one takes place on Saturday 9th December, and tickets are moving fast.
