Mix Of The Week: Best of 2018

Mix Of The Week: Best of 2018

It’s been an incredible year of dancefloor dominations, showcases of paramount technical ability and furiously hot festival performances and so we’re looking back through 2018 and picking out the best bits. With many established and quite frankly legendary DJs and producers continuously displaying why they hold such esteem in the world of electronic music, as well as fresh faces pushing the boundaries of genre blending and creating party vibes. Here’s to a fantastic twelve months of incomparable beats, and hopefully, another similarly spectacular slew of mixes in 2019...

Peach
Picked by Lorna Gray

“Peach’s ability to bleed and blend tracks together, regardless of their diverse genres and styles is not just a testament to her skills as a selector but a nod to her clear intent - to create a party vibe that absolutely everybody can get behind. ”

Derrick Carter

Picked by Stefan Gandhi

“This pioneer of dance music demonstrates top-class DJ skills throughout his live set by putting his classic house twist on modern pop anthems from the likes of Childish Gambino and Cardi B, as well as bringing a number of club bangers that promise to inspire movement on the dance floor, including ‘Can’t Hold It’ by Detroit Swindle and Mop Mop’s ‘So High’.”

The Black Madonna

Picked by Lorna Gray

“Treat yourself to just under an hour of the best selecting in deep, acid-tinted house cuts as DJ Marea Stamper cooly mixes an exhilarating set worthy of our weekly title. In addition to the thumping sounds she’s putting out to a more than enthusiastic crowd, she smashes out this incredible set wearing a ‘punch your local neo-nazi’ tee - The Black Madonna, we worship you. ”

Honey Dijon

Picked by Lorna Gray

“Surging from upbeat house bangers to souped up disco edits, strutting techno and an inspirational Martin Luther King voiceover passage, the iconic Chicago trend setter was in no mood for sitting around as she whipped up an electric atmosphere down under. Mix Of The Week? Please, this one’s a contender for Mix Of The Year.”

Carl Cox

Picked by Stefan Gandhi

“45 deep, you’d expect him to have perfected the art, and this Essential Mix certainly has all the power you’d expect of such an occasion. Slamming his way through bumpy tech house grooves, atmospheric vocal tracks and jacking machine funk, Cox shows off a selection of the kind of Ibiza-friendly house music that has made him a long-reining king of the underground, so strap in if you want a bit of at home dancefloor listening.”
