Mix Of The Week: Carl Cox

Mix Of The Week: Carl Cox

Andrew Kemp | Features & Interviews

There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.

Not too many artists have been at the helm of the BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix more than once, so how has Carl Cox swung 45? Whatever dastardly acts led him to achieve such a feat, we’re pretty happy he did, as it gave us a prime bit of listening for Mix Of The Week.

45 deep, you’d expect him to have perfected the art, and this Essential Mix certainly has all the power you’d expect of such an occasion. Slamming his way through bumpy tech house grooves, atmospheric vocal tracks and jacking machine funk, Cox shows off a selection of the kind of Ibiza-friendly house music that has made him a long-reining king of the underground, so strap in if you want a bit of at home dancefloor listening.

Carl Cox plays a world-first back to back set with Adam Beyer on Saturday 2nd June at the techno-focussed festival Junction 2, held at Boston Manor Park.
