There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
A star of Detroit’s second wave of techno, Carl Craig is usually mentioned in the same breath as Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Juan Atkins, so naturally his three hour DJ Mag mix from House of Yes in New York was always going to pique our interest. One of the Motor City’s most important dance music innovators, Craig has plenty to offer the listening public, and as head of Planet E Communications you can bet he’s got a good ear for other people’s tunes as well as his own. Blending his way through weird splashes of minimal, rugged Detroit industrial, strutting house and the odd venture into disco-leaning territory, Carl Craig worked his way into the TA office for a full three hours of space exploration.
Carl Craig plays at South West Four Festival in London’s Clapham Common on Sunday 27th August, and can also be caught at BPM Festival Portugal in September. The Warehouse Project also have the honour of hosting him in November, with Feel My Bicep welcoming him in an unfathomably exciting back to back with fellow Detroit legend Moodymann.
