There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide FM invited reggae knowitall David Rodigan to show off his twelve favourites from his record collection last week, serving up two hours of reggae and dub to mark the release of his new autobiography My Life In Reggae. Moving away from strict definitions of the word ‘mix’, this week we’ve decided to offer not just a collection of tunes, but an education. With plenty of chat between David and Gilles breaking up the musical offerings being delivered, our first reggae Mix Of The Week will give you a route into the bag of possibly the best reggae record collector that the UK has ever seen.
David Rodigan will launch his book My Life In Reggae at Liverpool’s The Merchant on Sunday 26th of March, with DJ sets from Tayo, Bernie Connor and the man himself. Also answering a Q&A session, Rodigan has promised “a very special intimate evening of stories and dubplates". A little further into the future, David Rodigan will be doing the rounds once again as the festival season kicks in, with trips to Lost & Found in April, and then Carnival Magnifico, Detonate, Wild Life, Parklife and Hideout in June. Still not tired from a busy few months, he’ll finish up at House of Common on August 28th, where he’ll be a guest of ska legends Madness.
