There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
This week we’ve turned back the clocks several times over, rediscovering a mix from the heady days of 2009. Stepping up for Little White Earbuds under her DJ Sprinkles alias, Terre Thaemlitz brought together a mixture of soul, house and experimental ambient music in the two hour long mix, which ventures from Marvin Gaye through the likes of Steve “Silk” Hurley, QX-1 and Logic. Breaking down into mysterious oceanic soundscapes near the end before a final diversion into disco-influenced house, the mix is a beguiling journey throughout and more than deserving of a revisit.
DJ Sprinkles will be playing out at Manchester’s Hidden on Saturday, offering a rare opportunity to explore her immersive loops of real deep house. A musical philosopher, her engagement with her music, her audience and the space that contains them is far beyond that of your standard DJ, and with a unique disregard for normal conventions, her set at Hidden is likely to catch even the best prepared receiver off guard.
