There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
If you consider yourself even the slightest bit knowledgeable about the London jazz scene, you’ll hopefully have come across audiophile sushi bar and restaurant Brilliant Corners, as well as the Dalston hangout’s most recognisable resident, Donna Leake. Easily one of the big city’s best spots for really listening to music, Brilliant Corners has gathered for itself a reputation as a musical paradise for intheknows, with wonderfully diverse selections presenting music from across the world as uncovered by some of the deepest diggers around.
Moving through this sublime two hour mix, it is easy to understand why. A figurehead for the venue after steadily rising in profile over the last few years, Donna Leake draws together sounds from every continent, with a love of everything from the wildest jazz to the most laid back reggae, the freakiest psychedelia and the most wonderful disco rarities. Weaving her captivating tapestries of cross-continental sounds, her latest NTS show is another example of Donna’s remarkable ability to collate beautiful music.
Donna Leake offers her floaty selections to Motion in Bristol on Friday 16th March, with DJ Bone, Red Axes and Dekmantel fuelling the techno and house side of the night. With Brilliant Corners sure to take their dreamy yurt setup to a variety of festivals again this summer, Leake will also have plenty to look forward to when the weather turns, and Field Day in London is the first to confirm their place at the party.
