Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
Legendary DJ Jeff Mills is a worldwide name that needs no introduction for techno music fans, bringing unique elements of musical elements to his distinct sound that earned him the reputable title as ‘The Wizard’ in the early to mid 1980s. In partnership with Mixmag, the well renowned American producer is back with an ominous, yet wonderful soundtrack titled Dark City that so appropriately fits the journey listeners are taken on with this intense mix of original music by the man himself that feels like a rollercoaster of soundscape layers and electronic patterns. With a descriptive story outlining the tales of a parallel universe set in 1973 that is 300 years ahead technologically - a theme closely resembling Ridley Scott’s popular 1980s film Bladerunner.
With 45 minutes in duration, this cinematic mix serves the sole purpose of mirroring the mood and atmosphere that accompanies R-4552 - an extraction specialist sent to Dark City to find an elusive ‘stayer’. Expect uneasy compositions with an addictive flow that features instrumental tracks from the likes of ‘Entering ‘Dark City’, ‘The Reynolds Corporation’, ‘The Beauty Of Shantoi’ and ‘The Theory of Darkness’ to many more tracks on this mind-bending soundtrack.
