There’s always something coming out the speakers in the Ticket Arena office, so we thought we’d share some of the sonic splendours that soundtrack all of our hard work. Now a weekly feature that brings a different artist to the fore each Thursday, the TA Mix Of The Week scours the vaults for some of our favourite sets of old and keeps a beady eye out for the classics of the future, serving up a taste of the artists that make us happy to do what we do.
2017 started with a new weekly show on BBC Radio 1 for Monki, and she’s looking pretty keen to build on the good start as she moves through the year. A night at Liverpool’s 24 Kitchen Street lies ahead on Thursday 9th March, with guests joining to take part in her latest tour, ‘The Warning’. Part of a wider tour that will see her visit London, Leeds, Nottingham and Birmingham before finishing up at Southampton’s Junk, the Liverpool leg will be a good chance for the BBC selector to show off her eclectic tastes and inspired selections.
This mix, recorded for Mixmag at the start of February, shows Monki working her way through chunky synth lines and punchy rhythms from the likes of Dalfie, Skream, Armand Van Helden and La-4a with the skillful execution and plenty of energy. A good introduction to the fun-first approach that the BBC DJ takes to her music, this one should get you right in the mood to see her at a festival this summer, with Annie Mac’s Lost & Found and Parklife both having secured Monki’s services behind the decks nice and early.
